Potions:

Follow the directions carefully or you’ll be sure to turn this delicate potion into a volatile substance that burns a hole right through the bottom of your cauldron.

Ingredients:
Dried nettles
Crushed snake fangs
Stewed horned slugs
Porcupine quills (add after taking the cauldron off the fire)

Someone doesn’t listen and puts the porcupine quills into the cauldron before it’s taken off the fire. It’s starts spewing a horrendously bright green smoke and you hear a soft hissing sound. You jump out of the way just in time for the liquid to melt it’s way right through the bottom iron cauldron and the top of the table. Just when you’re about to breathe a sigh of relief, you realize someone put the porcupine quills in YOUR cauldron by accident. Snape looks furious ..what do you do?

Charms:

Filius looked around the class from upon his pile of books behind his desk. Today was a pretty decent turnout. Of course the class was a little rowdy, but they always were at first. What more could you expect out of teenagers? So he gave them a couple of minutes to calm down before tapping his desk with his wand on his desk a few times to get their attention. “Alright class, quiet down now,” he called out and cleared his throat. “If you will notice, I have taken the liberty of placing a large stone on each of your desks. Today, I want to see what we all know, so all you need to do is move the stone to one of the waste baskets across the room. Extra points may be awarded for creativity.’ he announced with a smile on his face, “Oh, and do be careful, we don’t want any accidents today.”

—————————————————————————

Your goal is to move a heavy stone from your desk to the other side of the room. Write a short post describing how your character accomplished this. Be realistic for your character’s year and skill level. Extra points may be rewarded for particularly creative responses.

Care of Magical Creatures:

Unicorns and how to approach/handle them are the topic in today’s lesson. Unfortunately, there are two other students being loud and disruptive and Professor Hagrid has not noticed them. They are getting dangerously close to the edge of the Forbidden Forest. What do you do?

Divination:

Professor Trelawney sat herself steadily at one side of front table with her large crystal ball no longer in the middle, but to the side.  She pointed her finger up quickly in the air whilst in an “ah-ha” moment and retrieved a deck from a shelf beside her.  The abundance of bangles jingled and clanked while she shuffled the deck and placed it down gently with her swooped shawl over the card deck.  Trelawney rose and pulled the twin chair of her own out from under the table.

“Greetings, children, today we enter the vision of tarot reading.  I will call you up accordingly and draw your cards for you, but—!”  She hesitates to ensure she captures her audience. “You must interpret your cards for yourself.”

Professor Trelawney has called you up to the front table; it is your turn to decipher your cards.  Hopefully you have study the cards somewhat in your free time or are at least good at delivering.  She draws for three cards for you to interpret for your own reading of yourself.

1)   The Ace of Swords:  A stern-looking Archangel holds a sword with the blade aloft. A small crown is impaled on the sword and the angel holds a trailing plant in his other hand. A butterfly flies in a clouded sky.

2)   Eight of Wands:  Eight wands are flying through the air, although their forward movement is lessening and trajectory seems to be carrying them back to the earth.

3)   Five of Cups:  Five cups are scattered at the feet, two are over turned.

——————————————————————————————————-

Your assignment is to create your own reading based on the three cards given to you.

(Note: The reading does not have to be based directly from the actual meaning of the cards.  The meaning can be made up by you as you wish).

In order to complete this assignment, you must answer in role-play style similar to the prompt any lesson.  Post your character’s response below describing their reaction to the day’s assignment. Points will be awarded in accordance with the level of creativity on a scale of 10 points minimum to 30 points maximum.

Or:

The bangles which were encrusted on Sybill’s wrists jingled in rather cheerful tune. This was accompanied by the clattering of many chains and beads around her neck as she adjusted herself awkwardly in her seat.  Beside her was a familiar table that supported her, usually foggy, crystal ball.  Professor Trelawney quickly inspected her gaudy shawl and let out a small hum a bit as she straightened it to her fidgety liking.  She was ready for the class to begin as she pushed her glass closer to her eyes magnifying them as children began filling in their seats.  Professor Trelawney stood up and faced the class.

“Ehm— Welcome children, today we will be reading tea leaves.  You each will receive one cup and I must warnyou, do not break them… ehm, especially the pink ones.  I’m rather fond of the pink ones.”

Trelawney sat herself down for only a moment before making her rounds to the students.  She wanted them to settle in and start their task while she braced herself.  For her second sight, suggested that she might have given them two teacups.

——————————-—————————————

Your task was to read your tea leaves; however, your hand slipped and your teacup is now shattered on the floor.  Professor Trelawney is on her way over to see how you are doing.  What do you do?

Post your character’s response below describing their reaction to the day’s lesson. Points will be awarded in accordance with the level of creativity on a scale of 10 points minimum to 30 points maximum. You are allowed to react to each-other’s responses and you do not have to wait just for the professor’s grade.  Grading will be done when a decent amount has already responded, but you may continue to react to any later replies after the grade.

WEASLEY TWINS GAVE HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED WINTER SNIFFLES!

Let me set the scene of this intoxicating tale of bravery and woe!

It was five years back, Christmas was fast approaching and the Hogwarts grounds encased in feathery snow. The lake froze solid, an ice cube big enough for a giant’s martini!
Secluded in a snow-fort, three magnificent stories high and manned by a small battalion of Gryffindor first years behind its icy battlements, stands two redheads plotting their next ambush.
Fifty yards away, striding through several feet of snow and quivering to his pointed booties in the wicked cold come the then professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, Professor Quirrell and unbeknownst to the twins - wrapped up snuggley warm in his big knitted turban HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED!

Pouncing upon an apparently easy target the twins let loose a volley of well aimed snowballs. Each and every one landing proudly in place against the back of the Quirrell’s head and the face of the slumbering dark lord!

After a brisk punishment from the teacher the Weasleys retreated to their fort, and the Professor to the castle. He was not seen often for the next for days, but few CREDIBLE witnesses report stifled and confusing sneezes emanating from the back of the professors head. Congratulations boys!
